Times Tables

I have recently started tutoring a girl in Year 5.

She was having trouble with fractions- simplifying them.

Such as simplify:

20/25

24/40

12/36

Answers at the bottom!

She struggled as she is not confident with her times tables.

So we went back to practising them. This was the undercut.

I know it might sound obvious to say but you would be surprised how often I find children who struggle with Maths and do not know their times tables.

Please don’t underestimate the importance of a child learning their times tables at least up to their 12 times tables.

It is like a foundation from which your child can build on.

My Dad made a tape recording of the times tables up to 12 times 12 and he played it to us several times a week until we knew them off by heart. It put me in good stead!

Anyone reading this who has learnt them, please let me know how you learnt yours!!

Answers:

20/25 = 4/5

24/40 = 3/5

12/36 = 1/3
